Virginie Arslan is currently working at the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission. Before that, she served as a diplomat at the Embassy of Luxembourg in Turkey for 6 years until the summer of 2020, covering political issues. These included Turkey’s domestic affairs, foreign policy, human rights, Turkey-EU relations and the response to the refugee crisis. She was also involved in the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2015. She has previously worked for the EU Delegation in Turkey and at the Embassy of France in Turkey as an economic analyst. She is involved in the Jean Monnet programme in Turkey.
Virginie graduated from the Institute of Political Sciences of Strasbourg and from the Sorbonne University in Paris. She is a Fellow of the Stiftung Mercator 2018 “Turkey Europe Future Forum” programme. She was the Turkish women’s triathlon champion in 2016 and 2019 in her age group and regularly participates in ultra-trails, marathons, open water and half-Ironman races.
