Sebastian Dern

Sebastian is a German diplomat at the Federal Foreign Office. Before going on parental leave, he served as Deputy Consul General in Chengdu/China, where he focused his work on organising media and cultural activities to promote human rights, German as a foreign language and the history of Germany in Southwest China. In previous postings, Sebastian managed the Foreign Office’s embassies, consulates and residences in Africa and oversaw the reconstruction of its embassy in Kabul/Afghanistan.

Prior to joining the Federal Foreign Office, Sebastian studied civil engineering and management at the Technical University of Darmstadt and won a Fulbright scholarship to complete a second MA in real estate development at the University of Maryland. Scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Foundation of German Business (sdw) allowed him to study abroad at Tongji University in Shanghai/China and at Bond University in Queensland/Australia.

Sebastian is a member of the Tönissteiner Kreis and speaks fluent Mandarin.
