Matej works as a programme manager in the Department for the Bled Strategic Forum – a global platform for generating ideas and exchanging views on contemporary society and its future – at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia.
During the 2021 Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Matej worked as a member of the Mertens team dealing with Coreper I coordination in Brussels, Belgium. In addition to his regular work, he sometimes takes part in short-term OSCE/ODIHR observer missions and is an active member of the Global Diplomacy Lab. He is also a member of the BMW Foundation Responsible Leaders Network.
Born and raised in Slovenia’s oldest city Ptuj, he moved to the capital Ljubljana to study at the age of eighteen. During his studies, he spent a year abroad at the Department of Political Science and Government, Aarhus University in Denmark. He is interested in innovative decision-making processes and future studies.
