Juliet Can is an advisor and policy leader focused on democratic land ownership, creative and cultural advancement, and social justice. Her expertise in community-led planning has led her to serve as an advisor and board member of the Mayor of London’s Thames Estuary Production Corridor, co-chair of Creative Estuary, and director of the Ethical Property Company.
Originally from Uganda, Juliet’s early exposure to local governance models and her experiences as a refugee fueled her passion for social justice and the transformative power of creativity and culture. A dedicated campaigner, she has worked with Citizens UK on the London Living Wage Campaign and serves as a director of the London Community Land Trust, which promotes genuinely affordable housing. She is also a board member of the European Community Land Trust Network and is co-developing the East African Community Land Trust.
In 2019, she founded Stour Trust, a social enterprise recognized by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation as one of 27 Emerging Futures organizations for its innovative approaches to community-led regeneration and equitable land access. Juliet holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting & Finance with Technology Systems and a postgraduate certificate in Refugee and Development Studies. She speaks English, Luo, and German.
