Alexandre Côté is currently Regional Director for Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Global Affairs Canada. He was Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Canada in Haiti from 2019—2022 where he led a team responsible for political analysis & public diplomacy, development cooperation and humanitarian aid as well as economic analysis and trade. Alexandre was Senior Regional Trade Commissioner at the Embassy of Canada in Senegal where he led commercial relations with Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Cabo Verde, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Gambia and Niger as well as with the African Development Bank.
From 2014-2017, he was Senior Regional Trade Commissioner at the High Commission of Canada to Mozambique overseeing commercial relations with Mozambique, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Malawi, Swaziland and Congo-Brazzaville. Since joining Global Affairs Canada in 2008, he has served as Deputy Director, South America Relations (Colombia, Chile, Peru and the Pacific Alliance), and as Deputy Director (Americas and Europe), Stabilization and Reconstruction Task Force. Prior to joining Global Affairs Canada, working on climate change adaptation and mitigation, disaster risk reduction and biodiversity protection, Côté served for a decade with the United Nations in Burkina Faso, Italy, Mauritius, South Africa, Kenya, and with NGOs in Haiti and Canada.
He graduated from Glendon College, York University, Toronto with a BA in international relations and from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, with an MA (Economics) development administration and management. Alexandre is a Responsible Leader of the BMW Foundation.
