The GDL has successfully concluded its pilot project “Rethinking Global Partnerships: Navigating in Multipolar Contexts,” commissioned by the German Federal Foreign Office. Led by GDL Member Elizabeth Maloba, the project aimed to enhance Germany’s bilateral relations with Colombia, Kenya, and Morocco while addressing pressing global challenges such as climate resilience, youth unemployment, and inclusive governance in a rapidly changing world.

The project combined extensive stakeholder consultations and innovative analytical tools, culminating in mini-labs held in November 2024 in each partner country. These sessions, led by country coordinators Edna Maqu (Colombia), Esther Neema (Kenya), and Ghizlaine Akourim (Morocco), validated findings and shaped actionable recommendations tailored to local needs.

In Colombia, the project emphasized leadership and reconciliation programs to empower marginalized communities and ensure equitable participation in the green energy transition. In Kenya, the focus was on aligning vocational training with high-demand sectors like renewable energy and technology, while fostering digital innovation and youth-led entrepreneurship. For Morocco, addressing water scarcity through expertise transfer, community-driven conservation initiatives, and sustainable resource management emerged as priorities.

The recommendations highlight the importance of inclusivity, sustainability, and resilience in creating scalable solutions. Shared with the German Federal Foreign Office, these outcomes offer a pathway for Germany to advance equitable international partnerships and multilateral collaboration.
