21 to 22 March 2017, San Francisco
The Humanitarian Diplomacy Lab was a global series of workshops that explore new and inclusive forms of diplomacy in order to tackle urgent humanitarian challenges. Led by members of the Swiss foreign policy think tank foraus and the Global Diplomacy Lab, the workshops brought people from various backgrounds and disciplines together using collaborative and fast-paced methodology.
foraus global, the Global Diplomacy Lab, swissnex San Francisco and the Consulate General of Switzerland in San Francisco collaborated to organise Open Situation Rooms as part of a series of events called “Everyone a Humanitarian”. The project mirrors the visions of foraus global and the Global Diplomacy Lab, that is, to unleash the potential of smart minds around the planet and bring forth original pathways and new solutions to global (diplomacy) challenges.
Great minds from across the globe came together in order to find innovative solutions in a state of urgency and crisis. Teams from Africa (Ghana, Ethiopia), Asia (India, Nepal), North America (United States, Canada), South America (Colombia), and Europe (Switzerland) hosted Open Situation Rooms on 21–22 March. The Humanitarian Diplomacy Lab connected technologists, creative professionals and entrepreneurs with policymakers and humanitarians with the aim of jointly addressing humanitarian diplomacy challenges. The final Global Pitch Night was held at swissnex San Francisco on 22 March.
