Elena is a dedicated public servant with a background in academia. In 2022, she joined the Human Rights division of the German Federal Foreign Office. Elena comes from a family whose history has been shaped by experiencing migration, losing and gaining places called home, adaptation, resilience and change. These intergenerational experiences serve as a strong foundation for her empathetic and goal-driven engagement with the values and political realities of human rights globally.
Elena received a PhD in American Studies as a member of the “Environment & Society” program (Rachel Carson Center, LMU Munich). She conducted parts of her field research as a Fulbright scholar in Detroit and was further supported by the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC. Before working as a research and teaching assistant at the Amerika-Institut of LMU Munich, Elena worked as an editorial and production assistant at the Bavarian Public Broadcasting studios. She completed parts of her undergraduate studies at the University of Auckland, New Zealand and got her Masters at LMU Munich in American Studies, Political Science and Theater Studies. Spending time with her family and cultivating plants fills Elena with joy.
