Lilian Daphine Lunyolo is a young professional with diverse experience in research, development cooperation, as well as humanitarian and international development. She studied environmental science at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda, and integrated water resources management at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences in Germany.
Lilian has won several scholarships not only for her academic study, but also for her social and professional engagement, most notably a scholarship from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) for the European Forum Alpbach in Austria and the Carlo Schmid Programme, through which she worked for the World Food Programme in Timor-Leste, Asia and joined the Bosch Alumni Network.
While in Uganda, she worked as a research assistant on international projects hosted by Makerere University (May 2015 – January 2016), the climate sensitive water resources component of German Development Cooperation (February 2016 – March 2017) and most recently, she served as a liaison support for the Water and Sanitation Development Partners’ working group during her tenure at the Austrian Embassy, Coordination Office for Development Cooperation in Kampala (April 2020 – April 2021).
While at the Embassy, Lilian supported the development and initiation of three major projects with IIASA, UNDP and UWASNET in Uganda. In May 2021, Ms Lunyolo was selected as one of nine early career fellows from a strong pool of candidates from across the world and she is supporting projects and initiatives of the Nairobi Work Programme, which is the Knowledge-to-Action Hub for Climate Adaptation and Resilience at the UN Climate Change Secretariat in Bonn, Germany.
Socially, she tries to inspire young people, especially women, to get involved in the fight against climate change. Indeed, in August 2021, she was selected to co-host the climate change impact field for the Bosch Alumni Network until June 2022.
