Bastian Richter is a Senior Researcher at the Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) in Berlin. There, he is responsible for gathering and analysing experiences of civilian experts. With many years of work experience in the UN, he has in-depth expertise in leading complex inter-agency planning processes.
Previously, Bastian worked at the UN Department of Peace Operations (DPO) for the Policy and Best Practices Service and at the UNDP, where he managed the implementation of the UN-wide Programme Criticality Framework, an essential element of the UN’s security risk management system in countries affected by conflict.
Other previous employers include the UNICEF HQ and the UNICEF Somalia Country Office, as well as the UN Political Office for Somalia.
As a Mercator Fellow on International Affairs in 2010-11, Bastian explored the interplay between conflict and humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa. He holds a master’s degree in Global Politics from the London School of Economics (LSE). He enjoys reading about contemporary history and is a keen distance runner.
